James Vaccaro Success Story
I work at St .Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport CT. I am a cafeteria aide. This Job was created just for me. I have been working here for two years. I have a uniform that I have to wear every day when working at the hospital. My Job is to clean tables, chairs, counters, sweep the floor, wash trays, refill the silverware, napkins, and condiments and take out the garbage. At first it was hard for me to tie a garbage bag, but with the help of the Job Developer I was able to learn. I now tie the garbage bags all by myself. I take the elevator by myself and travel from floor to floor. I have a badge that I use to punch in and out. I Use the computer to approve my time card every week. When I need time off, I have to request it on the computer. I also have to mandatory safety training modules every year on the computer. I do them all by myself. I have a lot of natural supports in my work place- ‘’my co-workers’’. I love my job and the people that I work with. We are one big happy family. Everyone here looks out for me and l feel safe and supported at my job.
On January 7, 2015, I received the Values Recognition Award for alerting staff that someone was having a seizure. I alerted staff 911 was called. I know it was a seizure because I watch the show ER. I also received a second Recognition Award in October 2016 for the great work that I perform.
Congratulations to James. He found the right job where he can grow and use his skills to be a great employee.
