Health Care Advocacy Unit

The Health Care Advocacy Unit provides assistance to consumers who have health care problems. You may contact us to discuss your concerns, or send in a written complaint describing the nature of your problem and the names of the organizations that you believe are the cause of that problem. To facilitate your written communication with this unit, we have developed a Health Care Authorization / Release Form (pdf 11kb).  Please be aware that the authroization statement included within this form must be completed and in the possession of this department before we can begin to investigate your complaint.

While we cannot act as a consumer's private attorney, we can and will upon request assist consumers in pursuing administrative resolutions to health care problems.

Health Issues

• Connecticut Physicians Survey - Attorney General Richard Blumenthal released a statewide survey of Connecticut licensed and practicing physicians on the impact of managed care on patient care. The survey, one of the first of its kind in the nation, was conducted for the Attorney General by the University of Connecticut's Center for Survey Research.

• Omnibus Lawsuit Complaint- This is a federal class action complaint charging four major managed care companies (and their "parent" companies) with violations of The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).
  
  
• OxyContin Hearing Transcript - Oxycontin and other prescription painkillers, though essential and beneficial to many patients who use the drugs under the care and supervision of a physician, continue to be abused and sold on the street at an alarming level. This office has been working closely with interested state agencies, physicians, pharmacists, law enforcement officials, and other concerned stakeholders to develop proposed legislation to establish an electronic prescription drug monitoring program for controlled substances.
