Attorney General Warns Consumers About Firestone Tire Recall

July 15, 2009

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today warned consumers of a voluntary tire recall by Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC involving 127,183 Firestone FR380 tires, size P235/75R15, manufactured from Sept. 9, 2007 through July 2, 2008.

Bridgestone has determined that the tires were produced with insufficient tread base gauge and that continued use could lead to vibration and groove cracking; tread distortion or separation; and loss of vehicle control.

Bridgestone has stated that it is unaware of any injuries or property damage resulting from these defects.

As a part of the recall, Bridgestone will be notifying all affected consumers, and will provide replacement tires to those consumers free of charge. Bridgestone will also mount and balance the tires at no expense to the consumers.

The recall will run through October 31, 2009.

"We are issuing a warning because many consumers may be unaware of this recall -- or the potentially serious tire defects," Blumenthal said. "Consumers with these Firestone tires should take immediately advantage of this recall to protect themselves, and other drivers on the road."

Consumers with any questions regarding the recall may contact Bridgestone at 1-800-465-1904 or visit their website at www.firestonetire.com. Consumers may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to their website at www.safercar.gov.
