Attorney General Announces Agreement To Assure Furniture Delivery
August 6, 2010
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal announced a legal agreement with a Newington furniture company that requires the store to fulfill all outstanding furniture orders.
Bond Dinettes, Inc. and its principals, Stephen Pawlak, Jr. and Stephen Pawlak III, signed the legal agreement as it closed the doors to its 35-year-old business.
Blumenthal and the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) have received dozens of complaints against Bond Dinettes, Inc. concerning significant delays in furniture delivery, sometimes lasting months. The company also claimed to offer “free delivery,” but allegedly failed to adequately disclose a $20 “fuel surcharge.”
Blumenthal, in coordination with DCP Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., reached the agreement to ensure that Bond fulfills all obligations to consumers within 60 days.
“This agreement requires Bond to provide promised furniture to consumers rightly frustrated by unconscionable delivery delays,” Blumenthal said. “Bond Dinettes had a moral -- and legal -- obligation to warn consumers about likely delivery delays and fuel surcharges prior to purchase. Our paramount concern is that consumers receive the products they paid for. My office will closely monitor the company to ensure that it promptly notifies consumers about delivery status, and adheres to our legally binding agreement.”
