Attorney General’s Statement On Status Of Bernie’s Oil Bankruptcy Case
July 12, 2010
“Our investigation into Bernie’s Fuel Oil continued today during a meeting of the company’s creditors. Today’s meeting was the first step in obtaining information directly from the president of Bernie’s Oil about the reasons for the company’s failure, and the extent of the consumer harm. While the scale of consumer losses has yet to be confirmed, Daniel Groben’s testimony today revealed that Bernie’s could owe hundreds of thousands of gallons to hundreds of consumers.
“My office continues to work with the Department of Consumer Protection on a joint review of the company’s books and records as the bankruptcy proceeding moves forward. Once that review is complete, we will determine the next best step in our fight for restitution for customers who paid for, but never received oil and services.”
