ATTORNEY GENERAL SPEAKS OUT AS MEMBER OF
MEN MAKE A DIFFERENCE, MEN AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
(HARTFORD) – Attorney General George Jepsen added his voice Tuesday to those standing up against domestic violence during a news conference Tuesday by members of Men Make A Difference, Men Against Domestic Violence.
“One in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by intimate partners. Eighty-five percent of victims are female and most cases are never reported,” Attorney General Jepsen said.
“As Attorney General I want to help women get the assistance they need. I recently added a domestic violence resource page to my website, www.ct.gov/ag.”
“During my lifetime, I have seen how shifting norms and social mores have led to actual changes in behavior. We saw it in efforts to curb drunken driving. We saw it in efforts to bring equality to gay men and women. With our efforts here today, we intend to bring an end to domestic violence,” Attorney General Jepsen said.
October has been designated as National Domestic Violence Awareness month.
Men Make A Difference, Men Against Domestic Violence Task Force was created two years ago by 20 prominent men in the fields of government, business and media. Michael A. Martone, the Attorney General’s executive policy advisor and counsel, serves as his representative on the Task Force. The news conference was hosted by Interval House, Connecticut’s largest domestic violence intervention and prevention organization.
