ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG STATEMENT ON TRUMP PLAN TO END AUTOMATIC BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP FOR CHILDREN OF SERVICEMEMBERS AND DIPLOMATIC CORPS BORN ABROAD
(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong issued the following statement regarding the Trump Administration's plan to end automatic birthright citizenship for children of servicemembers and government employees born abroad:
“This pointless attack on military families and our diplomatic corps is an ominous shot across the bow, with further efforts to undermine birthright citizenship likely to follow. I stand ready to defend this foundational principle of American citizenship against this unconstitutional and cruel scheme. Service members and diplomatic families stationed overseas deserve immense gratitude for their service and sacrifice— not this heinous insult.”
