The spread of COVID-19 has created substantial disruption in the lives and businesses of Connecticut citizens. The Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) recognizes that COVID-19 may present challenges particularly if, as a result of COVID-19, some producers are unable to apply timely for the renewals of their license or may be unable to complete the required continuing education (“CE”) in time to allow for their license renewal. As it concerns CE, CID has become aware that several classes have been postponed or cancelled and that some course providers have not had yet the opportunity to switch to web-based or other types of remote class delivery. To assist the producer population that may be impacted by the incidence of COVID-19, CID will modify the requirements applicable to insurance producers whose licenses expire during this period of health emergency and will need to be renewed during this period of health emergency as follows:
License Renewals
The renewal date for all licensed insurance producers whose licenses expire and will need to be renewed in the period from March 24, 2020 through May 31, 2020 will be extended to June 30, 2020.
Continuing Education
- All licensed insurance producers whose CE compliance period expires between March 24, 2020 and May 31, 2020 will be granted an extension of time through June 30, 2020 in order to complete the required number of CE credits.
- Until further notice, all courses offered by licensed providers and approved for CE credits on the basis of classroom attendance can be offered via webinars or other method of electronic delivery, but such providers are required to resubmit the courses for approval for a different presentation method. The resubmission will be without any cost to the providers.
- Regardless of the presentation method used to deliver the material for CE credits, the providers are required to assume full responsibility for monitoring the attendance and completion of the courses.
