Minimal Facts Training
Discoverers Training Overview and Outline
____
Dear Community Partner,
Thank you for your interest in the Minimal Facts training of the Governor’s Task Force on Justice for Abused Children. Best practice indicates that, to minimize trauma, a child who has disclosed child maltreatment and abuse should be interviewed once by the person conducting a Forensic Interview. However, there is also recognition that, to ensure a child's safety, some information may need to be obtained directly from the child. The goal is to gather minimal facts in a manner that will not jeopardize the integrity of the forensic interview and investigation, or cause further trauma to the child. In response to this, the Governor's Task Force has partnered with the Connecticut Children's Alliance, the Department of Children and Families, State's Attorney's Office, the CT State Police, the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC - the state police academy), local police departments, multidisciplinary teams, forensic interviewers and other stakeholders across Connecticut to develop comprehensive minimal facts trainings.
In order to begin the registration process for a Minimal Facts training local, please email to Kristen M. Clark at kclark@thevillage.org suggested dates, times and the location for your training. Kristen will assist with identifying a certified Minimal Facts trainer to conduct the requested training. Once a presenter has been secured, you will receive an email with a link for participants to register for your course. To assist with the training facilitation, please email Kristen the details of the room where the training will be located. To conduct the training, we will need a flash drive enabled laptop with Media Player in order to run videos, access to the internet, an LCD projector, screen, and speakers. It will be optimal to have someone on hand just prior to the start of the training to assist with testing the audio-visual equipment.
We look forward to bringing the Minimal Facts training to your area. Feel free to contact Kristen Clark at kclark@thevillage.org if you have any questions.
