Congregate Care Medical and Nursing Oversight
The DCF Nurse Consultant in Central Office promotes continuous quality improvement of healthcare through oversight and support to congregate care facilities in accordance with the DCF practice guide Health Care Standards and Practice for Children and Youth in Care . This is accomplished through:
- Orientation and on-going support and consultation with the agency congregate care nurse on their responsibilities as outlined in the Health Care Standards and Practice for Children and Youth in Care (See link below for New Nurse Orientation Information)
- Conducting evaluations of clinical, medical, and nursing performance in these facilities. The functions of these nurses are consistent with Section 17 a-145-93 of DCF Agency Regulations regarding medical, dental and nursing care in Residential Facilities, Group Homes, Temporary Shelters and similar institutions.
- Promoting collaboration between the RRG Nurse and the Congregate Care Nurse in the facility when a medical need arises with a DCF involved child/youth. Examples of collaboration may include (but not limited to):
- Collaborating with DCF Regulatory Consultants on medical and nursing issues related to the health care needs of the children and youth in congregate care settings.
New Nurse Orientation
All new nurses to a DCF Licensed Child Caring facility must go through orientation with the Health and Wellness Nurse Consultant. Please clink on the link below to notify DCF that you are a new nurse are in need of an orientation. The Nurse Consultant will follow-up with a date to provide orientation.
