New Fairfield Man Pleads Guilty to Murder, Sexual Assault and Larceny Charges

1/20/2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Danbury, CT) – David R. Applegate, Danbury State’s Attorney, announced today that Steven Flood, age 37, of New Fairfield, pleaded guilty on January 19, 2023 in Danbury Superior Court to Murder in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a, two counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(1) and two counts of Larceny in the Third Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-124(a)(1), for one count, and § 53a-124(a)(2) for the other.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 29, 2023 in Danbury Superior Court.

Flood’s plea follows his arrest in connection with the April 2017 murder and sexual assault of his roommate.

According to court records, on May 2, 2017, police officers were dispatched to a residence in New Fairfield for a welfare check. At the residence, officers discovered the body of the deceased victim with significant injuries to her head. An investigation revealed that on April 30, 2017, Flood argued with his roommate, the victim. During the argument, he punched her in the head. After she fell, he proceeded to stomp on her head. As she was dying, Flood sexually assaulted her. Flood later fled the scene in the victim’s car after stealing her jewelry.  He was ultimately apprehended near Union, Connecticut. Flood gave a full confession to detectives.

This case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant State's Attorney Russell Zentner and Assistant State's Attorney Kristin Chiriatti.
