Wallingford Woman Charged with Stealing Union Funds

7/16/2021

A Wallingford woman and former financial secretary of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 4-753, was arrested today in connection with the theft of $23,452.08 of union funds.

Adriana Garcia, age 38, of Prospect Street, Wallingford, was arrested by Inspectors from the Statewide Prosecution Bureau of the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney and charged with one count of Larceny in the Third Degree.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Garcia conducted 31 unauthorized cash withdrawals from the union’s bank account between December 2017 and June 2019, and used the money to pay for personal expenses. Garcia had repaid all but $7,596.44 before the theft was uncovered.

Garcia was released on an $8,000.00 non-surety bond, and is due to appear in Meriden Superior Court, G.A. No. 7, on August 2, 2021. The case is being prosecuted by the Statewide Prosecution Bureau in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.

Larceny in the Third Degree is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine up to $5,000.00. The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
