Hours of operation:    Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.   Public access closes for the day at 4:00 pm.

Please note:
The Emergency Response Incident “Spills” documents will be scanned to make them publicly available electronically.

  • Estimated start date: November 2019
  • Estimated completion date: December 2020.
  • Records will be removed from the CT DEEP Records Center on an alphabetical town by town basis.
  • During the time a specific town’s reports are being scanned and quality control inspected, that town’s reports will be unavailable.  Remaining town reports will be available.
  • Once the records have been scanned, the paper files will no longer be available within the Records Center.  The documents will instead be available via our On-Line Document Search Portal: https://filings.deep.ct.gov/DEEPDocumentSearchPortal/

File Review Procedures

  1. A file review area with tables, chairs, and copy machines has been established outside the DEEP File Room Vault for the convenience of the public.
  2. A "Request for File Review" Form must be completed to obtain any files.
  3. All files shall be reviewed in the file review area and shall not be removed by the public for any reason.
  4. Members of the public may not enter the File Room Vault Area unless accompanied by a DEEP staff person.
  5. Files will not be pulled between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., or after 2:30 p.m.
  6. Personal items (with the exception of notepaper or a lap top computer) are not allowed on the review tables.
  7. No food or drink is allowed at the file review tables.
  8. Please handle all files with care and return the files in the same condition and order that you received them. Keep all files in a neat and orderly manner.
  9. Pencils are the preferred writing instrument at the file review tables to avoid damage to the files.
  10. The use of privately owned copiers within the file review area is prohibited.
  11. Please see the records center attendant for staplers, staple pullers, and questions regarding the files.
  12. If you find something misfiled, please notify one of the DEEP records center staff.
  13. There is no smoking allowed anywhere in the building.
  14. DEEP is not responsible for personal items lost, stolen or damaged.
  15. Sec. 53-153 of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) - Unlawful removal or alteration of records. Counterfeiting seals.

Copier Procedures

There are two card-operated copiers which are capable of providing double-sided copies and have an autofeed function.

Debit cards may be obtained from the Central Permits Processing Unit located at the front entrance to the DEEP.  The cost of the card is $1.00. Photo copies are $.25 cents per page for 8 1/2 by 11 and 8 1/2 x 14. Photo copies are $.50 cents per page for 11 x 17.  Photo copies of maps can be purchased in the DEEP store for $3.00 plus tax.

Credit toward making copies is added to the card by payment at the Bureau of Central Services, Central Permits Processing Unit located at the front entrance to the DEEP.

There is a $20.00 per day charge for the use of handheld battery operated devices used for scanning (including cell phones).  Payments must be made at the Bureau of Central Services, Central Permits Processing Unit.

Certified Copies

If needed, you may obtain certified copies of documents. The charge for certified copies is $1.00 for the first page, and $.50 for each additional page. The records center attendant must make the copies and certify them for you.

U.S.G.S. Maps and Aerial Photos

U.S.G.S. maps, and other publications may be purchased at the DEEP Store

Aerial Photos are no longer available at the DEEP.  They can be reviewed at the Connecticut State Library.

PLEASE NOTE: The presence or absence of Information in the Department’s files is not a guarantee of the presence or absence of environmental problems or violations at a site or facility.

Dates after file types indicate earliest files stored in file room. Some units of the DEEP have older files (generally pre-1990) stored off-site. Access to these documents may be arranged by contacting the appropriate Bureau representative in the file room.
