Announcement: DEMHS Reminds Connecticut’s Students of the FEMA Youth Preparedness Council Application Deadline
Applications are Due to FEMA on March 8, 2020
The Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security is reminding students statewide of the deadline to apply for FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council.
The FEMA Youth Preparedness Council was established by FEMA in 2012 to bring together young leaders interested in disaster preparedness as well as making a difference in their communities. Selected students are tasked with developing projects related to emergency management, homeland security and public safety.
Due Date: March 8, 2020
Eligible Applicants: Students in eighth through eleventh grade are eligible to apply.
How to Apply?: To apply, go to FEMA’s application website or download a copy of the application form.
Application Requirements: To be considered as an applicant for the national Youth Preparedness Council, applicants should complete all sections of the application. These sections include the following:
- A complete application form (including narrative responses to all application questions)
- Letters of recommendation
- Academic records (including transcripts from last year and this year)
- A list of extracurricular activities
- Any supplemental materials you wish to add to showcase your capabilities
One student will be selected to represent the six New England states that make up FEMA Region 1 nationally. Additionally, multiple students may be selected to represent Connecticut at FEMA Region 1 in Boston. More information can be found on the Ready.Gov website.
