Stamford Credit Union, Inc. Charter Ceremony
October 23, 2001 -
State Banking Commissioner John P. Burke presents a state charter license to officers of Stamford Credit Union, Inc., formerly known as Stamford Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union.
The credit union, located at 888 Washington Boulevard in Stamford, operated as a federally chartered credit union since 1984. Last year, its members elected to convert to a state charter, the third federal credit union to make the switch in the past two years.
The credit union serves employees of the City of Stamford, their families, and other select groups closely associated with city government. Currently, the credit union has 4,200 members.
Pictured here for the charter certificate ceremony held at the banking department’s offices in Hartford are, from left, Tom Fava, Stamford Credit Union chairman; Tony Pia, vice chairman; Commissioner Burke; Ray Dowling, the credit union’s president and CEO and Tom Zaleski, director of the banking department’s Credit Union Division, which oversees the activities of state-chartered credit unions.
