DEPARTMENT OF BANKING ENCOURAGES SMART SAVING DURING
CONNECTICUT SAVES WEEK
February 18, 2015
Governor Malloy has proclaimed the week of February 23-28, 2015 as Connecticut Saves Week, a time for residents to assess and improve their personal finances and improve their financial security. The Connecticut Department of Banking is using this opportunity to encourage consumers to focus on saving and smart investing. This week is also Military Saves Week, which encourages service members and their families to save money, reduce debt and build wealth.
“Connecticut Saves Week is the perfect time for all of us to take another step in building our financial independence and make a personal commitment to take charge of our finances,” said Acting Banking Commissioner Bruce Adams. “There are many ways to do that which are both simple and highly effective. Payroll deduction, college savings and retirement plans are just a few examples of ways to save and remain on solid ground.”
To help promote America Saves Week and Military Saves Week, the agency will hold a financial education expo on Wednesday, February 18, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The expo will feature exhibitors promoting financial education programs, smart saving and investing, budgeting and more. Department of Banking staff will be there to share resources and answer any questions, in addition to agencies including UConn Extension, State Treasurer’s Office and the CT National Guard Service Member and Family Support Center.
The Department of Banking’s website includes a section dedicated to consumer information and education and provides free online investor education resources to help investors evaluate the risks of various investment opportunities and spot the red flags of fraud. Specific publications and resources are geared toward military service members and their families. Visit www.ct.gov/dob. Department staff is available to give free presentations on a variety of topics, including credit and debt management, identity theft, investment fraud, and banking scams.
