Department of Banking Encourages Consumers to Save More
During Connecticut Saves Week and Military Saves Week
February 26, 2018
Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez announced that the Connecticut Department of Banking is participating in Connecticut Saves Week in order to remind Connecticut consumers of the advantage of savings.
Connecticut Saves Week – which runs from February 26-March 3, 2018 - is an annual campaign to promote good savings behavior. This week is also Military Saves Week, which encourages the military and their families to save money and build wealth.
“This week, Connecticut’s residents are encouraged to focus on smart saving and investing habits to help reach important financial goals, such as saving for college or retirement,” said Commissioner Perez. “While it is important to remember to maintain those habits year-round, Connecticut Saves Week is a great time to evaluate our finances and ensure financial security for ourselves and our families.”
To help promote Connecticut Saves Week and Military Saves Week, the agency has planned a full week of activities centered on smart saving and financial wellbeing. See below for a full list of events. Some of the highlights include:
-
A financial education expo on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The expo will feature exhibitor tables promoting financial education programs, smart saving and investing, budgeting and more.
-
Workshops at American Job Centers in Hamden, Bridgeport and Hartford, in coordination with UConn Extension and the State Department of Labor.
-
A financial fair at the submarine school at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in New London.
The Connecticut Department of Banking is a proud partner in Military Saves Week and America Saves Week, national public awareness efforts led by the Consumer Federation of America to motivate people to save for their financial future. To learn more, visit www.connecticutsaves.org.
