Banks To Re-Open
September 11, 2001 (7:15 p.m.) -
In the interest of public safety, Banking Commissioner John P. Burke earlier today requested that all banks and credit unions in Connecticut close.
Banks and credit unions are expected to re-open for normal business operations on Wednesday morning, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Despite the extraordinary events of the past day, Commissioner Burke said that customers should remain confident that their savings in banks and credit unions are not at risk and are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), respectively.
