Welcome to The Connecticut Health Information Exchange Program

On March 15, 2010, the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) was awarded $7.29 million in funding from the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.  At that time, the DPH entered into a four-year Cooperative Agreement with the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).  The Cooperative Agreement outlines how these federal funds will be used to develop, implement and sustain statewide capacity for a Health Information Exchange (HIE) and meaningful use of electronic medical records.
New Legislation

Effective July 1, 2014, the Department of Social Services (DSS) is the lead agency for the Health Information Technology Exchange development for the State of Connecticut.  The Department of Public Health recognized the need to have this function developed as soon as possible for Public Health Reporting data and will be working with DSS closely in its’ development.

DPH is Connecticut’s designated authority to receive public health data.

DPH is NOT ready to support the capacity to accept electronic data for Meaningful Use Stage 2 for any of the Public Health objective (Immunizations, Electronic Lab Reporting, Cancer reporting and the Syndromic Surveillance).
