Obtaining Connecticut Licensure for the First Time
Before applying for licensure, please familiarize yourself with the general licensing policies.
An applicant for licensure shall meet the following requirements:
Hold a master's or doctorate degree in audiology from a program accredited at the time of the applicant's graduation by the Educational Standards Board of the American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE). Please select this link for information regarding applicants who do not hold a master's or doctorate degree from an accredited program;
Successful completion of a Supervised Professional Experience (SPE) period in audiology:
Please note that the SPE period is waived for applicants who meet the January 1, 2007, ASHA Standards for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and for applicants who have been awarded a doctoral degree in audiology from an accredited program on or after January 1, 2007.
An equivalent SPE completed in another state may be accepted toward meeting this requirement.
Professional work experience in another state may be substituted in lieu of the SPE requirement provided the applicant, at the time the experience commenced:

Held a master's or doctorate degree in speech and language pathology; and

Was licensed, certified or held an ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence;
Successful completion of the NTE Specialty Area Test in audiology administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), Princeton, New Jersey. The passing score for Connecticut licensure is 170. The Connecticut Department of Public Heath's code number for score reports is R-7051.
The written examination requirement may be waived if the applicant holds a current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency in audiology. All other education and experience requirements must be met for licensure.
Documentation Requirements
Applicants for licensure shall arrange for the following documents to be submitted directly to this office:
A master's or doctorate transcript verifying the award of a master's or doctorate degree in audiology;
If applicable, verification of completion of the Supervised Professional Experience. Please select this link for the verification form if the SPE was completed in Connecticut. Please select this link for the verification form for an SPE completed outside of Connecticut;
If substituting work experience in lieu of the required SPE, verification of at least 9 months of full-time work experience or 18 months of part-time work experience. Please select this link for the required form;
If applicable, verification of successful completion of NTE sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS); or
If applicable, verification of Certificate in Clinical Competency, sent directly to this office ASHA;
If the applicant holds or has held licensure in other states, verification of all licenses held, current or expired, sent directly to this department from each state. Please contact the jurisdiction prior to submission of the form as some may charge a fee for this service;
A completed application with photo attached. Applications are only accepted online. Please select this link to apply on line. The application fee is $200.
