Waiver of Written Examination
Before applying for licensure, please familiarize yourself with the general licensing policies.
The Department of Public Health may grant a license without written examination to any currently practicing, competent licensee from any other state having licensure requirements substantially similar to, or higher than, those of this state, who:
Is a graduate of an accredited school of chiropractic approved by said board with the consent of the Commissioner of Public Health;
Has completed a course of two academic years or sixty semester hours of study in a college or scientific school approved by the board with the consent of the Commissioner of Public Health; and
Has successfully passed Part IV of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
The department may issue a license without written or practical examination to a chiropractor who holds a current valid license in good standing issued after examination by another state or territory that maintains licensing standards that, except for examination, are commensurate with this state's standards and who has worked continuously as a licensed chiropractor in an academic or clinical setting for a period of not less than five years immediately preceding the date of application for licensure without examination.
Documentation Requirements
An applicant seeking licensure by waiver of written examination shall arrange for the submission of the following documentation directly to this office:
An official transcript verifying 60 semester hours of pre-professional college education, sent directly from each institution where studies were undertaken;
An official transcript of chiropractic education, verifying the award of the Doctor of Chiropractic degree;
If applicable, verification of successful completion of the Part IV examination administered by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners;
If applicable, verification of work experience as a licensed chiropractor in an academic or clinical setting for a period of not less than five years immediately preceding the date of application for licensure without examination;
Official verification of all professional licenses, certificates or registrations held, current or expired, as a chiropractor sent directly from the appropriate authority to this office. Please contact the jurisdiction first as a fee may be required for completion of the form;

At such time as all documentation is received, the applications will be reviewed by department staff, an eligibility determination will be made and the applicant will be notified regarding the department's determination. Please allow four to six weeks for this review.
Please note that if it is determined that the other state's licensing requirements are not equal to those of this state and the applicant wants to pursue licensure, the applicant would be required to meet the current licensure requirements .
