Hartford – The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) today announced it was named a finalist in the fourth annual Rich Media Impact Awards in the Healthcare category by Sonic Foundry, Inc. a rich media webcasting and knowledge management company.
DPH is recognized for its use of Mediasite, Sonic Foundry’s patented webcasting platform, to provide education and training to its workers and constituents. Mediasite automates the capture, management, delivery and search of lectures, online training and briefings.
“Mediasite is a key component of the department’s distance learning infrastructure,” stated DPH Commissioner Dr. Jewel Mullen. “The department uses this technology to provide the public health community with learning content that is accessible to practitioners 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Mediasite helps the department deliver education and training programs in a timely and cost effective manner by eliminating travel time and reducing training costs. For example, in 2010 DPH provided online lead inspector refresher training to local housing code officials resulting in a savings of $220,000 and a benefit cost ratio of 14:1 when compared to traditional classroom based training.
“Once again the finalists this year amazed us. Demonstrating excellence in both creativity and measurable results, the entries illustrate the passion and commitment our customers have toward knowledge-sharing that transcends time and distance,” said Rob Lipps, Executive Vice President of Sonic Foundry. “Initiatives like the one at the Connecticut Department of Public Health are instrumental in creating a culture of learning, and we are proud to honor them and their accomplishments.”
Winners will be announced at special ceremonies webcast live throughout UNLEASH 2011, the Mediasite User Conference, taking place May 17 and 18. Watch the ceremonies live or on-demand at http://www.sonicfoundry.com/awards2011.
