Connecticut EMS providers respond to over 500,000 emergency calls each year
Hartford – In conjunction with National Emergency Medical Services Week, the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Connecticut Regional EMS Councils will honor state Emergency Medical Services providers for their outstanding service at an award ceremony next week.
The annual State EMS Awards recognizes Connecticut EMS providers in several award categories. Two Connecticut state legislators will also be honored for their leadership in support of emergency medical services.
“Connecticut EMS providers respond to over 500,000 9-1-1 calls each year, providing quality pre-hospital emergency medical care to people when they need it most,” said DPH Commissioner Dr. Jewel Mullen. “The recipients of these awards exemplify the invaluable service EMS professionals from across the state provide every day to the people of Connecticut.”
The 2013 EMS award recipients are:
- New Britain EMS
- Greg Allard, American Ambulance Service, Norwich
- Chris Bowen, Eastford Fire and Rescues Sales
- Raffaella Coler, Hartford Hospital
- Judith Reynolds, Essex Ambulance
- Robert Ziegler, Emergency Resource Management, Portland
- State Representative Jason Perillo
- State Senator Terry Gerratana
The annual State EMS Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, May 20th, at 10:30 a.m. in the Old Judiciary Room of the State Capitol. “EMS Day at The Capitol” will also feature informational displays about emergency medical services in the 2nd Floor Atrium of the Legislative Office Building. The event is expected to bring together EMS providers from across the state to help celebrate this important week.
National Emergency Medical Services Week, celebrated across the country each year during the third week of May, brings together local communities and emergency medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of the medical "front line." This year’s theme is: “EMS: One mission. One team.”
