Current CTR Studies
The registry is participating in a multi-registry SEER study to examine how the SEER program can support biospecimen research through a SEER-linked ‘Virtual Tissue Repository’ (VTR). A SEER VTR, with its population representativeness and large sampling frame would be a unique resource for assembling robust collections of biospecimens, even for rare tumors and outcomes.
This project aims to:
-
To assess the ability of the Connecticut Tumor Registry to serve as a resource for biospecimen research.
-
To locate cases with biospecimens in pathology laboratories and determine the requirements to retrieve those biospecimens.
-
To provide custom annotation of specified data items.
-
To capture costs for identifying each available biospecimen and performing custom annotation of each biospecimen.
Research Support
Staff epidemiologists are available to facilitate use of CTR data for cancer research conducted by non-CTR investigators. For example, we frequently prepare customized datasets and statistical summaries of CTR data, and conduct linkages between external research datasets and the CTR database.
Projects with which CTR has recently collaborated:
NCI Transplant Cancer Match Study
World Trade Center Health Program
American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Study II
American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Study-3
Yale Cancer Center Rapid Case Ascertainment
Virtual Pooled Registry Cancer Linkage System (VPR-CLS)
CTR data have been used in a large number of research studies.
-
Publications using CTR data are listed in our bibliography: CTR bibliography 1935 – 2014 CTR bibliography 2015 – 2018.
We strongly encourage all researchers conducting or planning epidemiological investigations that would benefit from the inclusion of CTR data to contact CTR epidemiologists.
Researchers requiring access to individual-level data will need to submit an application to the CTDPH Human Investigations Committee (HIC) and are advised to discuss specific data needs with CTR epidemiologists prior to submission.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) receives research funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Public Health Service (PHS). In order to comply with federal regulations, DPH maintains and enforces a Policy on Managing Conflict of Interest in Federally-Funded Research. This Policy promotes objectivity in research by establishing standards that preserve the integrity of research undertaken in the Department of Public Health (DPH), and applies to all DPH staff participating in such research.
