DRS extends deadlines for filing certain administrative protests and tax appeals

(Hartford, CT) - In recognition of the impact of COVID-19 and consistent with Executive Orders issued by Governor Lamont, the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) today announced that it is extending the deadline for filing certain protests with the DRS’ Appellate Division by ninety (90) days. The DRS also issued guidance regarding the filing of tax appeals.

“Everyone has been impacted by the pandemic,” said Acting Revenue Services Commissioner John Biello. “DRS recognizes that taxpayers have been rightly focused on their health and safety and should not have to worry about filing a timely protest with DRS. The guidance issued today makes sure that taxpayers have the opportunity to resolve outstanding issues with the agency.”

The guidance DRS issued is set forth in Announcement 2020(7), COVID-19 Extension of Deadlines for Filing Administrative Protests and Suspension of Deadlines for Filing Tax Appeals, which is available below and on the DRS website (via the ‘Publications’ tab, in grey box, and then ‘Announcements’): https://portal.ct.gov/drs/

During the pandemic, taxpayers are encouraged to correspond with DRS electronically for expedited processing. The DRS’ Appellate Division can be reached at DRS.AppellateDivision@po.state.ct.us.
