Background
Over the past decade, Connecticut state agencies have participated in Lead by Example initiatives aimed at achieving cost savings through energy conservation, with great success. These initiatives save taxpayers over $6 million and over 11,500 metric tons in net CO2 (equivalent) reduction, annually.
In 2019, Governor Ned Lamont’s first executive order launched GreenerGovCT - a bold set of goals for state agencies for the next decade to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, curb wasteful water use, and reduce the amount of waste disposed at state facilities. Meeting these goals will require concerted focus, inter-agency coordination and the implementation of best practices.
This website provides resources helpful to state agencies in meeting the goals of Executive Order 1, and is a source of information for the general public about the state government’s progress in meeting goals and achieving the associated cost savings.
