Goals
Governor Lamont’s Executive Order 1 sets ambitious and attainable goals for state agency sustainability. The order requires that work begin immediately to establish measurable benchmarks to meet goals for energy, water, and waste reduction. The goals and accountability ensure that state agencies are doing their part to meet environmental goals, with a focus on mitigating climate change.
The state plans to meet these reduction goals, in addition to avoiding operating costs, by focusing on the following categories:
- Renewables on State Properties
- Energy Efficiency in State Buildings
- Sustainable Water Use
- Sustainable Materials Management
- Clean and Efficient Transportation
Toolkits are being prepared for each of these five categories to assist agencies in making progress. More resources will be developed as the state works hard to ensure agencies have the best options for planning, financing, and measuring improvements. The first step to start measuring our progress towards these goals is to obtain an accurate and consistent baseline by benchmarking agency buildings and fleets.
