GOV. MALLOY'S TWO STORM PANEL TO VOTE ON FINAL REPORT MONDAY
(HARTFORD, CT) - The working group Governor Dannel P. Malloy created to review the preparedness, response and recovery efforts of Tropical Storm Irene and the October Nor'easter will hold a meeting Monday morning to vote on its final report and set of recommendations.
The Two Storm Panel, originally named the S.T.O.R.M. Irene Panel, was created by Governor Malloy in September in the immediate aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene and charged with producing a set of recommendations on how the state and its partners can improve the preparedness and response to natural disasters. Several weeks later, the panel's scope was broadened and the group was renamed following the state's unprecedented October Nor'easter.
"Understanding that a comprehensive evaluation of all entities - both public and private - throughout the entire state was needed, we assembled a group of people with diverse backgrounds to conduct an honest assessment of what went right, what could have been done better, and what needs to be done the next time we have extraordinary weather-related events," Governor Malloy said. "I look forward to reviewing the panel's recommendations in preparation for the upcoming legislative session."
The Two Storm Panel - comprised of eight members with backgrounds in the military, disaster relief, municipal government, non-profit and labor sectors - held nine public meetings, during which they received extensive testimony from a number of experts on a range of issues impacted by emergency situations.
Information on the final meeting, which begins at 9:30 a.m. in Room 1D of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, can be found
