FRIDAY: GOV. MALLOY SPEAKS AT PROVIDENCE SCHOOL ABOUT OVERCOMING LEARNING DIFFERENCES, HONORED WITH AWARD
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Friday afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will be a guest at The Hamilton School at Wheeler in Providence, where he will speak with the school's students about his experience overcoming learning differences. Later in the evening, he will also attend a ceremony where he will receive the school's 20th annual Life Achievement Award, which is given each year to a noted dyslexic individual and will be presented by Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee.
The Hamilton School at Wheeler is a "school within a school" that serves elementary-grade children with language-based learning differences. Many Hamilton students have been diagnosed with dyslexia, attention-deficit disorder, executive function deficits, or specific language impairments.
Since being elected, Governor Malloy has visited several schools to speak with students about learning differences.
