GOV. MALLOY DIRECTS FLAGS TO HALF-STAFF MONDAY IN OBSERVATION OF MEMORIAL DAY
U.S. and State Flags to Fly Half-Staff from Sunrise until Noon
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags to fly half-staff on Monday, May 26, 2014 in observation of Memorial Day. In accordance with the U.S. flag code, flags should remain lowered on that day from sunrise until noon.
"On Memorial Day, we honor the bravery and courage of the members of the Armed Forces who have given their lives in service to our country. They have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our Constitution and the values we hold dear, and we honor their legacy," said Governor Malloy, who also issued a proclamation to commemorate the day. "We especially pay tribute to the families of those who have lost loved ones in service. We are forever grateful and we will never forget what they have given for our nation."
Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said, "Memorial Day gives us an opportunity to reflect on the generations of men and women who fought and died defending this great nation - we are so grateful for their bravery and commitment. It is incumbent upon all of us to carry on their service and duty in our daily lives - to treasure our freedoms, engage in our communities, and support our military and their families. We hold in our thoughts and prayers the troops who are deployed, and the families who give them the strength to do what they do."
