Gov. Malloy Announces $1.2 Million in Grants for Nonprofit Providers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that over $1.2 million in grants are being awarded to eight nonprofit organizations in Connecticut as part of the state's Nonprofit Collaboration Incentive Grant Program (NCIP). The grant program supplements one-time infrastructure costs related to the consolidation of programs and services resulting from the collaborations between two or more nonprofit organizations providing services in Connecticut.
"These funds help the nonprofit organizations that are providing so many good services to our state to maximize efficiencies gained by streamlining and collaboration," Governor Malloy said. "By partnering with nonprofit agencies on these efficiency measures, we can ensure that they can focus on what they do best - getting services to those who need them most."
Over a four-year period, the state invested $5 million to support 18 nonprofit organizations under this program.
The grants announced today are for:
- Clifford Beers Clinic (CBC) and Fair Haven Community Health Clinic (FHCHC) Integrated Care Initiative: $75,124 to implement a videoconferencing system to integrate primary care and behavioral health care services to improve access to and quality of care by making more efficient use of primary care and mental health services.
- Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies (CCFSA) Mobilization Project: $44,614 to purchase computer equipment that will allow the collaboration to serve clients outside of a traditional office setting and support efforts to allow the sharing of data and reporting systems.
- Fairfield County IT Collaboration Technology Project: $90,200 to add a mobility component to the current Electronic Health Records system that will be shared by the Family Center, Family Services Woodfield and Family and Children's Agency. The increased mobility created by this project will significantly improve productivity and enable more responsive in-person interactions with clients.
- Homeward Bound Facility Improvement Project: $86,300 to renovate a building to allow for the co-location of staff from the Covenant Shelter of New London, Columbus House, Inc. and New London Homeless Hospitality Center, allowing a transition to a more effective coordinated system of services available to individuals experiencing homelessness in the New London area.
- Joint Training Group & Development Facility Improvement & Technology Project: $250,779 to convert office space to accommodate the co-location of the Hispanic Center and Family & Children's Aid. The co-location of staff will improve the effectiveness of programs by increasing the number of programs and the cultural and linguistic competency of programs.
- Multi-Sensory Stimulation Environment Project: $82,925 to create a Multi-Sensory Stimulation Environment Room (MSE) that will consolidate CCARC, Hospital for Special Care and Oak Hill's current MSE services and needs into a higher functioning space used by individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
- The Village for Families and Children & KIDSAFE CT Co-Location and Technology Project: $308,005 to renovate KIDSAFE's existing site to maximize space and accommodate the co-location of staff from The Village for Families and Children. The co-location will allow the collaboration to strengthen the services they provide their clients through joint projects relating to family centered services such as child safety, family problem solving, parenting skills and social supports.
- Youth Behavioral Health Services Expansion Project: $335,132 to create a technical infrastructure to serve as the basis for the creation of a behavioral health telemedicine network. This network will provide Cornell Scott-Hill Health Corporation and the Lower Naugatuck Valley Parent Child Resource Center with the ability to consolidate behavioral health services and increase access to services for the community.
In addition to the awards issued through this Nonprofit Collaboration Incentive Grant Program, the state is currently accepting Requests for Applications for a third round of grants under the state's Nonprofit Grant Program - a state bond pool specifically designated for nonprofit community-based organizations that provide direct health and human services for state agency clients through contracts or agreements with state agencies.
The Request for Applications under this third round of grants is for $30 million, and applications must be received by June 26, 2015. Guidelines and application instructions can be found online.
