Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman: Congressional Tax Scam Falls Short on its Promise of Reform for the American People
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding the final version of the Republican tax plan that the House and Senate are expected to vote on today:
Governor Malloy said, “This is not tax reform. The bill that came out of conference still falls woefully short on its promise for meaningful reform for the American people. This does not provide relief to the middle class, but for the wealthiest few. This bill does not even pay for itself, but will add nearly a trillion to the national debt. What this bill does accomplish is a tax cut for the very wealthy and corporations on the backs of working class taxpayers. It will increase the number of uninsured individuals by 13 million while risking future funding for Medicare and Medicaid. It is inconceivable that so many Republicans in Congress and the Senate will turn their backs on the vast majority of people across the country who will be harmed by this bill. We implore them to listen to the people, go back to the drawing board, and deliver real tax reform that will work for all of America.”
Lt. Governor Wyman said, “This bill is an abject failure. Medical provider associations, insurers, and patient advocates have repeatedly come out against the elimination of the mandate because it will cause healthcare costs to spiral up. The Congressional Budget Office estimates it will add an additional 13 million residents to the ranks of the uninsured. At a time when Congress should be working to improve the affordability and accessibility of healthcare, the Republican tax plan purposefully rolls back years of progress.”- Twitter: @GovMalloyOffice
