Gov. Malloy Announces Partial Activation of State’s Emergency Operations Center at 2pm Wednesday
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he will partially activate the state’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 to monitor storm conditions across the state and prepare for winter weather that is forecast to have an impact on afternoon travel. Forecasts are showing a range of accumulation across the state, with the heaviest amounts occurring in central and eastern Connecticut.
The state’s EOC will be staffed with personnel from the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, the Department of Transportation (CTDOT), the Connecticut National Guard, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Department of Public Health, and liaisons from Eversource and United Illuminating.
CTDOT has 634 plow trucks and 200 private contractors ready to clear the roads. Materials such as sale, liquid magnesium chloride, and spare parts are stockpiled at roughly 50 CTDOT satellite facilities throughout the state. The department also has 17 industrial/loader-mounted snow blowers that are capable of each moving 1,500 tons of snow per hour.
