Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on Today’s Mass School Shooting in Texas
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding today’s mass school shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas:
Governor Malloy said, “Again. America has been struck by a mass shooting – again. Schools are scenes of bloodshed – again. Sons and daughters will not return home from school today because of a senseless act of gun violence – again. The grief, the anger, and the disappointment are as visceral today as they were after the shooting at Sandy Hook. After the school shooting at Columbine. After Virginia Tech. After Las Vegas and Orlando and Parkland. Our country is exhausted by these tragedies and we have run out of patience. The federal government must pass meaningful, comprehensive gun violence prevention laws now. States have been leading the way in the absence of Congressional action for decades and we have solutions. It’s long overdue for Washington D.C. to start listening and take action. Our hearts are mourning for all of the victims, their families, and their loved ones on this tragic day.”
Lt. Governor Wyman said, “I don’t know how many more words there are to describe the horror of another school shooting. Our students are marching in the streets for safer schools, and our children are still dying by gunfire in them. Our grief is unending, and today we join the families in Texas as they mourn their children and their community. Just as we begin to heal from one massacre, another occurs. The solution hasn’t changed – Congress must act on gun violence prevention. They can no longer allow the NRA to be the arbiter of public safety.”
