Since 1978, Safe Haven has been providing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual violence in the 10 towns in the Greater Waterbury area.  In the last fiscal year, we provided services to almost 4,000 individuals in our programs from court based services, to shelter and community clients.  In addition, 560 workshops were presented to over 3,400 adults and 13,000 children.

Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury is dedicated to fulfilling our mission to offer a Safe Haven for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by providing free, confidential services in a safe, caring environment; striving to raise awareness through community education and outreach. Our support, counseling and advocacy restores hope and helps people reclaim their lives.  Safe Haven is committed to ending violence and sexual assault by changing the social conditions and beliefs that perpetuate violence against others. Services are provided to any survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault regardless of age, race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.

Prior to receiving this grant, if a handicapped client contacted us for services, we needed to make arrangements with another local social service agency with handicapped access to meet the client.

Safe Haven received funding from OPM under the Governor’s Nonprofit Grant Program to add a handicapped lift to accommodate our clients right here at our main office.  Our clients now have access to a handicap accessible office, restroom and our group room on the 1^st floor of the office.
