The Salvation Army

New Resource Room at The Salvation Army's Waterbury Corps
After months of hard work and construction, The Salvation Army's Waterbury Corps was able to proudly show off the newly renovated family shelter in early June 2017. Thanks to the generosity of the CT OPM Nonprofit Grant Program, the 9-room, 30-bed family shelter now includes a much-needed Resource Room, where residents and their children can utilize computers to work on resumes and homework, as well as research employment opportunities and apartments. The work funded by the grant included prep and painting/removal of unneeded wiring and pipes, replacement of doors, installation of flooring, installation of upper and lower cabinets and cabinet doors, telephone wire installation, internet hookups, furnishings, computer equipment and a new television and copier. As the photos demonstrate, all work has been completed and the Resource Room is ready for immediate use by the shelter staff and residents. Overall, the Resource Room area includes three partitioned sections in which providers can assist the residents, three computers that the residents can use for searching employment opportunities, new seating, a renovated cabinetry area that includes a water cooler, microwave and small refrigerator, and a dedicated conference table for both staff and residents training and meetings. On behalf of the entire Salvation Army family, we extend a truly heartfelt thank you to the State of Connecticut's OPM for its support of our social service programs.
