DAS COMMISSIONER GILMAN FEATURED AT NATIONAL SUMMIT ON DIGITAL GOVERNMENT

Summit Hosted Government and IT Leaders from Across the US and Showcased Connecticut’s Growth Toward an All-Digital Government

2/24/2023

(HARTFORD, CT) – On Thursday, Commissioner Michelle Gilman of the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) was a featured speaker at ‘Beyond the Beltway: Tech Trends in the State and Localities,’ a national conference hosted by the Center for Digital Government outside Washington, DC. Commissioner Gilman participated on a panel with other government and IT leaders from across the United States to showcase the State of Connecticut’s advancements in developing an all-digital government.

“In Connecticut, under Governor Lamont’s leadership, we are implementing a new way of doing business and providing services – an all-digital government. An all-digital government is not just about technology, it’s about people first, and people focused technology,” Commissioner Gilman said. “We are developing a centralized digital ecosystem for commuters, healthcare seekers, business owners, and all our residents who interact with Connecticut state government services,” Commissioner Gilman said.

Commissioner Gilman’s panel participation at the conference comes after the State of Connecticut was nationally recognized as a leader in digital government excellence and streamlining and technology improvement efforts this past fall and summer. In collaboration across state agencies, DAS’ Bureau of Information Technology Solutions (BITS) has launched 75 new websites over the past three years including, but not limited to, digitizing how to start a business in the state and providing 20, and counting, Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) transactions online to state residents.

“By breaking down silos and sharing information across state government, we’re able to improve our entire service ecosystem for our residents,” Commissioner Gilman said. “In an ever-digital society and economy, our residents expect their government services to be online, accessible, easy to use, and personalized.”

DAS continues to build a digital government ecosystem with the future goal to host all Connecticut state government services in one place. In the coming months, further developments in digital services for business owners, health and job seekers, educators, commuters, and more are anticipated.
