Secretary of the State Denise Merrill Statement on the House Passage of the National Popular Vote
“From Board of Education to Governor of Connecticut to United States Senator, in every election the candidate who gets the most votes wins – except for the highest office in the land, the election for the President of the United States. Today, Connecticut has taking an important step towards ensuring that every voter’s vote counts.I commend the Connecticut House of Representatives for passing the National Popular Vote bill and I am hopeful that the Connecticut Senate will do the same, joining Connecticut with the 11 states, representing almost two-thirds of the electoral votes necessary to elect the president, that have already passed this common sense reform.” – Secretary of the State Denise Merrill
