THURSDAY: GOV. MALLOY ATTENDS NEWS CONFERENCE ON GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION; JOINS HAMDEN STUDENTS AT FISH STOCKING EVENT; HOLDS COMMUNITY FORUM IN EAST HARTFORD
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Thursday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will speak at a news conference in Hartford hosted by a coalition of more than 20 state gun violence prevention organizations marking the one-year anniversary of a comprehensive legislative package of reforms on gun violence prevention, mental health initiatives and school safety improvements that was approved by the Connecticut General Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.
At noon, Governor Malloy will join a group of 1 st and 5 th graders from Hamden's Helen Street School and Ridge Hill School at Lake Wintergreen in Hamden for an annual Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) trout stocking event in preparation for the opening day of fishing. The event is an opportunity for volunteers to teach students about the importance of Connecticut's natural resources, fish and fishing. Also participating will be DEEP Commissioner Rob Klee, Mayor Scott Jackson, school teachers and administrators, and other state and local officials. Opening day of fishing is on April 19.
In the evening, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will hold a community forum in East Hartford, where they will speak with members of the public about their agenda for Connecticut's future. This will be the fifth event in this year's series of gubernatorial community forums.
