State law prohibits diet companies from making representations about the safety of weight loss programs, achieving or maintaining weight loss, and other claims or beneifts without reliance on competent and reliable scientific evidence, based on a representative sampling of customers who have used the product or plan. Violations are considered an unfair trade practice.
