Retirement
The time comes when aging caregivers are beginning to have care-giving needs of their own and it is more difficult for them to play an active role in the lives of their grown children. This is a time of life many parents and families dread as they think of what could happen to their adult child with a disability if they or siblings are no longer around. When life-span education and supports to families are in place – and when that education includes future planning, including financial planning and planning for the life and supports the person needs – these fears can be lessened and planful rather than crisis driven transition can happen. *Wingspread Report, 2011
