Connecticut works closely with 3 contiguous states to support regional public protection. Rhode Island is the neighboring state to the east and is within the Ingestion Pathway Zone (IPZ) - 50 mile radius - of Millstone. This state is involved in quarterly communications tests and IPZ exercises. Massachusetts is to the north and is also involved in quarterly communications tests. This state may provide resources and support to our state in the event of an incident at Millstone. The state of New York, to the West of Connecticut, has a county – Suffolk and one town within the Millstone Emergency Preparedness Zone (EPZ). New York’s Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Radiological Emergency Preparedness program coordinates with Connecticut in the protection of Fishers Island, NY residents. Much of the western portion of Connecticut lies within the IPZ of Entergy’s Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, NY. Connecticut is involved in IPZ exercises for Indian Point and may provide resources and support to NY in the event of incidents just across our western border.
