All-terrain vehicle (ATV)

Step 1: Check for issues with the ATV


Step 2: Gather the documents needed to register


  •  An acceptable form of ID is required for each person listed as an owner of the ATV. Examples include a driver’s license, learner’s permit, or U.S. Passport.

    There are special ID rules for ATVs registered in the name of a business, leased ATVs, and people who do not have an acceptable form of ID. Learn more about acceptable forms of ID. open-outline-dark-blue
  • An Application for Registration and Title (PDF).open-outline-dark-blue
  • Documents showing proof of ownership. If your ATV was purchased in CT and is newer than 20 years old, you will need a title. The previous owner’s registration is required in lieu of a title for ATV’s 20+ model years old. 

    For ATVs with a model year 20-years old or older, you do not need a title. Instead, you need the registration from the last owner.

  • Proof of insurance. You must buy insurance for your new vehicle. Once you get insurance, your insurance company will give you an insurance identification card for your new vehicle. This insurance card is proof of insurance.

Snowmobile
