Gov. Malloy Outlines Principles for the Operation of State Government in the Absence of a Budget
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today informed members of the General Assembly that, in the absence of an appropriations act adopted by the General Assembly prior to the start of the fiscal year that begins next week, his administration is developing a plan for managing state government to maintain essential services and satisfy obligations that are critical to the functioning of the state. The Governor, who met with legislative leaders in his office this morning, stressed that while this is not his preferred method for operating the state, the action is necessary to ensure that state government functions smoothly.

Gov. Malloy: New State Partnership Will Provide Enhanced Education Opportunities and More Job Marketability to Those on the Verge of Leaving Incarceration
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that a new partnership between the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) and the Department of Correction (DOC) will create a new 10-hour construction safety and health training class to persons in DOC custody who are nearing the end of their sentences and preparing to seek employment. The federally-approved course, often referred to as the “OSHA-10,” is a new initiative that has a the goal of increasing the education and skills of those leaving incarceration so they become more marketable to prospective employers.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Sonar Technician 3rd Class Ngoc T. Truong Huynh
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff beginning immediately in honor of U.S. Navy Sonar Technician 3rd Class Ngoc T. Truong Huynh of Oakville, who was among those who died on board the U.S.S. Fitzgerald in a collision in Japan.

Gov. Malloy Appoints Justice McDonald to Serve as Chairman of the State’s Criminal Justice Commission
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has appointed Supreme Court Justice Andrew J. McDonald to serve as chairman of the Connecticut Criminal Justice Commission, the group constitutionally charged with appointing all state prosecutors within the Division of Criminal Justice. He will fill the role most recently held by Supreme Court Justice Richard N. Palmer, who submitted a letter to the Governor on Tuesday resigning as its chairman. Justice McDonald will serve in the position until the legislature convenes again in February 2018, when a nomination will be put before the General Assembly for its consideration.

Gov. Malloy Encourages Residents to Explore the State's Tourist Attractions During Connecticut Open House Day This Saturday
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is encouraging Connecticut residents to take advantage of the special discounts and unique promotions being offered at over 200 tourist destinations across the state this Saturday, June 10, 2017, as part of the state’s 13th annual Connecticut Open House Day. Coordinated by the Connecticut Office of Tourism, participating attractions from throughout the state will be offering special incentives throughout the day – such as free or reduced admission, free gifts, or special exhibits and activities – in an effort to encourage residents to explore everything the state has to offer.

Gov. Malloy Announces Amazon to Create Large-Scale Distribution Center and Add 1,800 New Jobs in North Haven
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Amazon – the largest internet-based retailer in the world – has decided to expand its presence in Connecticut with the creation of a new state-of-the-art, 855,000 square-foot fulfillment center in North Haven. The company plans to spend $255 million on the project, where it will create 1,800 jobs at the new facility. The company, which recently opened a fulfillment center in Windsor and a sorting center in Wallingford, currently employs approximately 2,000 people in Connecticut. With the addition of the North Haven facility, that number will increase to approximately 3,800 Connecticut-based employees.
