Gov. Malloy Announces Colt to Expand Operations, Grow Jobs in Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Colt’s Manufacturing Company is purchasing its West Hartford headquarters and manufacturing facility and making new investments to expand operations and grow jobs in Connecticut. The acquisition of this property is a key part of the company’s growth strategy and is part of a $23 million project by Colt that targets the retention of its current workforce of 600 employees and will lead to the creation of an additional 100 jobs at the location over the next five years.

Gov. Malloy Commemorates the Seventh Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, noting that the number of people without health insurance in Connecticut is at the lowest point in history, today applauded the seventh anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Through the adoption of the law and the coverage it has extended through Access Heath CT, the state’s healthcare exchange, Connecticut is among the states with the lowest uninsured rates in the nation.

Gov. Malloy Signs Order Transferring Two Review Boards to the Department of Developmental Services
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an executive order that administratively moves from the Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities (OPA) to the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) two review boards that review and investigate the deaths of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Gov. Malloy’s Proposed Budget Includes Needed Resources to Reduce Caseloads for Social Workers and Help Meet Critical Responsibilities
Governor Dannel M. Malloy today announced that resources that are included in his biennial budget proposal will help the Department of Children and Families (DCF) reduce the caseloads handled by the agency’s social workers to 75 percent of the maximum caseload standard in order to assist them in meeting the critical responsibilities of their jobs.

Gov. Malloy: Economic Impact Study Finds Tourism Contributes $14.7 Billion to Connecticut Economy, Posts Five Straight Years of Job Growth in State
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and the Connecticut Office of Tourism today announced the results of an economic impact study of the tourism industry in Connecticut, showing total direct and indirect business sales supported by the travel industry reached $14.7 billion in 2015 – a 4.6 percent increase since 2013. The study also shows that tourism employment grew 2 percent since 2013 to reach 82,688 jobs in 2015, the fifth straight year of employment growth.

Gov. Malloy Lifts Statewide Travel Ban Effective at 5PM Today, Encourages Residents to Remain Off Roads if Possible
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced this afternoon that the travel ban on state roads that went into effect early this morning will be lifted effective at 5:00 p.m. today, but he is still urging motorists to stay off the roads if possible this evening as conditions remain treacherous.

Gov. Malloy Announces Opening of State’s New Corrections Unit Exclusively for Young Adult Offenders
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) Commissioner Scott Semple today announced that the DOC has opened a new unit at the Cheshire Correctional Institution that will house offenders between the ages of 18 to 25 with the goal of preventing these young adults who have committed nonviolent crimes from beginning a life of crime and returning to prison.

Gov. Malloy Announces Impact of Trumpcare on Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that according to a new analysis of the impact on the State of Connecticut of the Republicans’ American Health Care Act – also known as Trumpcare – healthcare coverage for tens of thousands of state residents could be threatened, and as much as $1 billion in annual costs would be added to the state at full implementation after 2020.

Gov. Malloy Signs Civil Preparedness Emergency Ahead of Winter Storm, Activates Statewide Travel Ban Beginning at 5AM Tuesday
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an order proclaiming a civil preparedness emergency in the State of Connecticut ahead of the major winter storm that is expected to impact the state on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. With dangerous weather conditions anticipated that will last throughout the day, the Governor has also signed an order activating a statewide travel ban that will begin at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday and remain in effect until further notice. In addition, the Governor is fully activating the state’s Emergency Operations Center starting at 5:00 a.m. He is also directing all nonessential first and second-shift state employees to not report to work on Tuesday.
