Adding secondary subject cross-endorsements to a Connecticut teaching certificate
The following endorsements apply to secondary subjects:
- English, 7-12 (#015)
- History/Social Studies, 7-12 (#026)
- Mathematics, 7-12 (#029)
- Business, 7-12 (#010)
Coursework Requirement
- A major in English or 30 semester hours of credit in English, including course work in:
- secondary developmental reading
- advanced composition beyond the college freshman level
- English language including history and grammar of the language
Assessment Requirement:
- Passing score on the Praxis II – English (#5039)
History and Social Studies, 7-12 (#026)
Coursework Requirement:
- A major in history/social studies or 30 semester hours of credit in history and social studies, including:
- A minimum of 12 credits in history, including coursework in each of the following areas:
- a course in United States history
- a course in Western civilization or European history
- a course in non-Western history
- A minimum of 12 credits in history, including coursework in each of the following areas:
- Coursework in at least three of the following areas:
- political science
- economics
- geography
- sociology
- anthropology
- psychology
Assessment Requirement:
- Passing score on the Praxis II – Social Studies (#5081)
Mathematics, 7-12 (#029)
Effective July 1, 2018, educators who hold a valid initial, provisional, or professional educator certificate with a teaching endorsement may be eligible for an additional endorsement in math by obtaining a passing score on the appropriate Praxis II test. Additional course work in the content area is no longer required.

Business, 7-12 (#010)
Coursework Requirement:
- A major in business or 30 semester hours of credit in business.
Assessment Requirement:
- Passing score on the Praxis II – Business Education (#5101)
Please note: Course work for all endorsements must result in the award of college-level credit posted to an official transcript from an accredited college or university.
