The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides cash assistance for snacks and meals served at no charge to students ages 18 and younger in at-risk afterschool programs. Participating programs are located within the boundaries of eligible low-income elementary school attendance areas. Eligible facilities include public and private schools, nonresidential child care centers, and outside school-hours care centers. To participate, sponsors must have a structured, supervised afterschool enrichment program. Cash assistance is available for up to one snack and one meal per day for each student. All snacks and meals must meet the requirements of the CACFP meal patterns for children.
