Themes

The six themes of leadership, equity, advocacy, collaboration, accountability and systemic change are woven throughout the Connecticut Comprehensive School Counselor Framework (CCSCF). They are integral elements of a comprehensive and systemic approach. The definition of the themes are highlighted in section 1 and throughout this document. Additionally, Connecticut expanded the ASCA Model’s four themes adding equity and accountability for better outcomes.

Four Components

The four components of the CCSCF have changed from Foundation, Management, Delivery and Accountability to Define; Build, Implement, Monitor; Deliver; Assess, Act, Announce. Using verbs instead of nouns is more active and descriptive of what school counselors do. Additionally, Connecticut expanded the ASCA Model’s four components adding more actionable procedures. The four components are highlighted in section 2.

Domains

The Connecticut School Counselor Student Standards and Competencies are organized into three broad domains: academic, career and social/emotional development. These domains promote a growth mindsets and behaviors that enhance the learning process and supports a positive and equitable culture of college and career readiness and success for all students. The definition of the themes are highlighted in section 1 and throughout this document.
