Area Agencies on Aging

Find services in your area

Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) are nonprofit planning agencies funded by ADS. AAAs use federal and state resources to support providers of services for older adults. These include:

  • Social services
  • Nutritional services
  • Disease prevention and health promotion services
  • Family caregiver support services
  • Adult day care aide positions

AAAs may also directly help with community education, advocacy, case management, information and assistance, benefits counseling, and training.

Centers for Independent Living (CILs) are community-based centers that promote empowerment and self-reliance for people with disabilities. With 5 locations each serving a different region of Connecticut, these CILs provide 5 core services:

  • Peer support
  • Information and resource referrals
  • Transition services
  • Advocacy
  • Independent living skills training
