About Family Support

What is Family Support?

Family supports are a wide range of supports and services that assist families who care for family members who have intellectual disabilities. Family supports such as respite, short-term crisis support, in home supports, skill training, transportation, behavioral support, and clinical supports help families to care for their family members within the family home. Supports are most effective when they are individualized, preventative, flexible to meet changing needs, readily available in a crisis, and promote the individual’s participation in the life of the family and their community.
